Cultural impact: His music, dancing, fashion, and stage presence helped reshape American popular culture. Movies: Starred in numerous films, beginning with Love Me Tender (1956). Military service: Served in the U.S. Army from 1958–1960. Comeback: His 1968 television special marked a major return to live performance. Las Vegas era: Became known for elaborate concerts and jumpsuits during the 1970s. Death: Died August 16, 1977, at age 42. Legacy: Remains one of the best-known and most commercially successful figures in popular music.
