  Sep 24, 202627 min

Chances are, we all know someone whose life has been touched by breast cancer—a mother, sister, friend, coworker, or maybe even you.  Today, we're going beyond the pink ribbon to talk about early detection, survivorship, and turning awareness into action. Because knowing your risk, getting screened, supporting someone through the journey, and funding research can make a real difference.  Joining me are Rebecca Bross with the American Cancer Society, along with breast cancer survivor Jeannine Morroney-Teets. We're talking about what every woman should know, their personal journeys, and how Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is bringing our community together.  Because awareness matters—but what we do with that awareness matters even more.  Guests - Rebecca Bross – Sr. Development Mngr. ALS - Caregiving Wellness

  Sep 11, 202628 min

Caregiving is often a role we step into because we love someone—but few of us are truly prepared for everything that comes with it. The emotional toll, the physical demands, the financial decisions and the uncertainty about what the future may hold can quickly become overwhelming.  Tammy Hall, Executive Director of Beacon of Hope for ALS and a caregiver herself. Tammy cares for her husband, who is living with ALS, and she’s using what she has learned along the way to help other families feel better prepared and supported.  On Saturday, September 12, Beacon of Hope for ALS will host a Caregiver Wellness and Long-Term Planning Workshop Series. Tammy talks about her personal journey, the realities caregivers often aren't prepared for, why planning matters—and an equally important question: while you're taking care of someone else, who's taking care of you? International Overdose Awareness Day

  Aug 28, 202630 min

You know, when we hear the word “overdose,” it can be easy to think, that’s somebody else’s family, somebody else’s child, somebody else’s problem. But the truth is, overdose can touch any family and any community.  August is International Overdose Awareness Month, and it gives us an opportunity to have some very real conversations—not only about the lives we’ve lost, but about the lives we can still save.  We’re talking about fentanyl, counterfeit pills, addiction, Narcan, recovery and the warning signs we all need to know. And perhaps most importantly, we’re talking about how we can take away some of the shame and stigma that can keep people from asking for help.  Because you never know when what you learn today could help save someone’s life.  _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Guests: Michelle Clanton , AmityMed.org   Marcus Boyd - Mecklenburg County Opioid Settlement  Dr. Christopher Griggs – Atrium Health 704-534-8029 (additional treatment) Request FREE narcan See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info .

Laugh Yourself To Life - Caregivers Need Joy, Too

  Aug 21, 202628 min

Caregiving is an incredible act of love, but let's be real—it can also be exhausting, emotional, isolating, and sometimes overwhelming. And when you're caring for someone you love who is living with dementia, finding something to smile about can feel almost impossible.  Today, we're talking about making room for joy even in the midst of a difficult caregiving journey. I'm joined by Venitra White-Dean, who cared for her mother, Frankie Mae, before losing her to dementia. That experience inspired Venitra to create the Frankie Mae Foundation, where she's now helping other caregivers navigate a journey she knows all too well.  We're also joined by comedian and host Nuff Ced, who understands the caregiving journey personally and believes in the healing power of a good laugh. Together, they're bringing caregivers and the community together for Laugh Yourself to Life , August 30 at The Comedy Zone in Charlotte.  We're talking about the hard parts of caregiving, finding support, permitting ourselves to experience joy—and why sometimes, laughter really can be good medicine. Guests: Venita White-Dean Executive Director/Founder - Frankie Mae Foundation Nuff Ced Comedian, Host, Caregiver Advocate See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info .
