Episode #1464
With your local Waupaca news for this Friday, September 18th, I'm Durant Popple. Tomorrow, starting at 9am is the annual fall-o-rama. This year, it will be taking place inside the Rec Center, but will still contain craft and vendor booths, food trucks, line dancers, live music and animals, magic performances, firefighters and the jaws of life, and plenty more. Proceeds from this event go to Friends of Waupaca Parks. For more details or to join the vendor waiting list, you can visit the Friends website at friends of Waupaca parks dot com. Also tomorrow, the Waupaca library adult book club meets to discuss "The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry", by Rachel Joyce. The discussion takes place in the Library's conference room at 10am, or over Zoom. The next book to be discussed is John Green's book, "Everything is Tuberculosis". More information, including the Zoom link, can be found online at Waupaca library dot org. The annual water main flushing for the city of Waupaca will be taking place this coming week. This routine maintenance will help remove naturally occurring mineral deposits such as iron from the water distribution system, and will improve water quality and the reliability of the system. Flushing will occur from the 20th to the 24th, 10pm to 6am; and the following week 7am until 3pm. Residents are advised to limit water use during these times to avoid drawing discolored water into the home. If you get discolored water, stop using the water and wait 45 minutes, then run only cold water until the water becomes clear. Questions on this process can be directed to the water department by calling them at 715 258 44 20. The Aging and Disability Resource Center of Waupaca County is seeking volunteer drivers for its Home Delivered Meal Program. ADRC officials say the service provides meals to local seniors, but more volunteers are needed to meet community demand. Delivery routes take about an hour, with flexible scheduling available for those helping serve older residents across Waupaca. Waupaca County’s Planning and Zoning meeting will be held this evening at Waupaca’s Recreation Center. It starts at 5pm. They will cover selected revisions to Chapter 34 of Waupaca County’s Zoning Ordinance. This meeting was rescheduled from a previous meeting with overflowing capacity. It is expected that a large crowd will be present since the revisions to the zoning code include defining Data Centers. Those attending the meeting are asked to enter through the Recreation Center’s main entrance off the rear parking lot, parking is available at the Rec Center’s main and lower parking lots, on the street and at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Waupaca Historical Society will host a presentation on local author and educator Margaret Ashmun tonight. “A Visit with Margaret Ash-mun,” featuring Dr. Connie Haack-Hurl-but, will take place at the Holly History and Genealogy Center beginning at 6 p.m. The program will explore Ashmun’s life and literary contributions, with live period music also scheduled as part of the evening. Lastly, due to the forecast, Waupaca’s Fall-O-Rama will be held indoors on Saturday at the Waupaca Recreation Center.
