Period Blood, Women’s Magic & the “Men Are Aliens” Theory
What happens when a conversation about women being magical turns into period blood, moon water, witchcraft, science... and a conspiracy theory that men might actually be aliens? This week on Call It... Girl Dinner , Lee and Amanda are going down a very unexpected rabbit hole — with Kemary joining in from afar to give us her thoughts. It starts with a video of a woman who mixed her period blood with moon water and somehow ended up with something growing in the jar. From there, we get into the shame surrounding menstruation, women’s relationship with nature, spirituality and witchcraft, the things women have historically been taught to hide about their bodies, and the very blurry line between something feeling like “magic” and simply being something science can explain. And then things get weird. A conspiracy theory claiming that women were the original humans and men are actually aliens sends us into an entirely different conversation about religion, science, what we actually know versus what makes for a fascinating theory, and whether society would look fundamentally different if it had been built by women. We fact-check. We speculate. We accidentally end up in Barbie Land. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, a ridiculous conspiracy theory turns into a surprisingly interesting question about gender, power, hierarchy, and what humans might build if nobody were taught that one gender needed power over another.
