Episode #23
My conversation with Dr. Eva Heintz literally saved a life.
Eva discusses how she found her life's purpose, which centres on promoting diversity, with a specific focus on women and single parents, drawing on her own experiences as an immigrant and single mother. She credits COVID-19 as the period of reflection that clarified this purpose for her. Her aha moment came when she noticed the dramatic underrepresentation of women in leadership within research and development, which motivated her to form an affinity group and advocate for female employees within Solvay, one of the largest chemical companies in the world. Her message to those struggling is to muster the courage to ask for help, seek out available resources and support systems, and not give up hope. She also emphasises that leaders need downtime to remain effective and that working relentlessly is not a sustainable model. On corporate leadership challenges, she identifies agile growth with empathy as the biggest issue facing executives today, particularly in a post-COVID environment where transparency and connection to people throughout the value chain are critical.
