Brett Trainor Unplugged is for Gen Xers who want to get one step closer to living the life they want—on their terms. After six years of building life beyond the default corporate playbook, thousands of conversations with Gen Xers, entrepreneurs, and experts, and features in Fortune, Fast Company, Forbes, Harvard Business Review, and Inc., Brett Trainor is still on the quest to build his ideal life—and he shares what he learns along the way. Part personal journal, part practical guide, and part curious conversation, this is a candid, lightly produced show about stripping away the noise, rejecting unnecessary grind, and seeing more of what is possible. Brett is a deconstructor, explorer, dot connector, and self-admitted high-functioning lazy person. Through solo episodes and unfiltered conversations with Gen Xers, founders, creators, and experts, he explores the decisions, habits, tools, tradeoffs, and ideas that can help you build a life you actually want to live. The conversations span the areas that make life worth living: money, mind and body, purpose, connections, possibility, and fun. There is no singular path. No hustle theater. No permission required. Just better questions, useful ideas, and real examples that help you see what is possible—and ask: Why not me?

Gen X Has a Math Problem
Aug 27, 202619 minS0

This one's a step back to look at the big picture, because a lot of the Gen Xers I talk to are too busy living life to see it.

Three things are colliding at once.

Corporate is chaos. It's not your age, it's your expense. Somebody can do half your job for half the price, and that's who gets picked. Getting laid off is one thing. Getting back in is the real problem. Look around your own network if you don't believe me.

The savings math. The generation before us had pensions. We...

Corporate quit on me just over six years ago.

At the time I thought this was about one thing: replacing my income. Six years, 350 episodes, and a whole lot of experiments later, I've figured out it was never really about the money.

This is the first solo episode under the new name, and I wanted to start by sharing the nine things I've learned on this quest so far. Not a playbook. Not a system. Just the stuff that turned out to be true, whether you're still in corporate, recently laid off, or already out...

You Can Always Make More Money. You Can't Make More Time
Aug 11, 202626 minS0

You can always make more money. You can't make more time.

This is the episode that ties the whole thing together: what a time rich life actually is, and why control of your time, not your income, is the key to the life you want.

My first year out of corporate, I chased one thing: replace the paycheck and then some. I did it. And I wasn't much happier. This is the story of what I was actually missing, and the simple framework that fixed it.

In this episode:<...

Making money outside corporate is easier than landing your next corporate job. After a thousand-plus conversations with people leaving corporate, the blocker is almost never skill or experience. It's that we overcomplicate it.

This one is all mechanics. If you're 45+ and trying to make your first dollar outside corporate, or just want to stop betting everything on one paycheck, this is the playbook.

In this episode:

Your real number: why you think in cash flow now, not salary, and why it's lower than you'd guess

Why one boss is the riskiest...

If you have a concern about deliverability, AI quality, data privacy, or whether this will actually work for your specific situation, it's probably answered below.
What is the difference between Founder Solo and Founder Pro?
Founder Solo gives you 50 AI pitches per month using the credit model (Standard pitches cost 1 credit, Enriched pitches cost 2). Founder Pro raises that to 200 credits per month and adds full Booking Probability access, unlimited Magic Match, Apollo enrichment credits, and data export capabilities. Both plans use the same credit system, so you can stretch your monthly budget further by using Standard-mode drafting.
How do agency tiers work?
Agency tiers have no base fee. You pay per managed client and per talent profile. Agency Standard is $199 per client per month; Agency Pro is $399 per client per month. Both add $39 per talent profile per month. Your own team's user seats are always free.
What is a talent profile?
A talent profile represents one person (founder, executive, or spokesperson) you are booking onto podcasts. It includes their bio, topics, headshots, and outreach history. Team plans include 5 profiles; agency plans are pay-as-you-go.
Can I switch plans later?
Yes, at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately; downgrades apply at the end of the current billing period. Contact support if you need help migrating between plan families.
Do you offer a free trial?
Every paid plan includes a 15-day free trial. Your card is saved at signup but you will not be charged until day 16. Cancel any time from your dashboard.
What happens if I cancel?
You keep access until the end of your current billing period. No charges after that. Your data is retained for 30 days in case you reactivate.
Is the 20% annual discount automatic?
Yes. Select Annual on the pricing toggle and the discounted price is applied automatically at checkout. The annual price shown is the full year cost.
What if I have more than 50 profiles or 20 clients?
That is our Enterprise tier. Contact our sales team and we will build a custom plan with volume pricing, a dedicated account manager, and SLA guarantees.
