Boston Blackie - "The Backstage Murder" (Old Time Radio, 1946)
Boston Blackie, “The Backstage Murder,” originally broadcast September 10, 1946, is episode 87 of the Richard Kollmar-led Ziv syndicated series. Kollmar stars as Blackie, with Jan Miner as Mary Wesley and Maurice Tarplin as Inspector Faraday. Mary talks Blackie into appearing in a benefit rehearsal of Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado, but the backstage fun turns deadly when theater superintendent Roger Knowlton is found stabbed in an open trunk. Marked playing cards lead Blackie into a tangled mystery among the theater’s props, performers, and possible victims of Knowlton’s card cheating. Old Time Retro Radio presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
