Unequal Ground: Why Black workers are falling behind in California's economy
UCLA professor Dr. Michael Stoll breaks down California's economy and how Black workers are being impacted. A new UCLA report, Unequal Ground , reveals that Black Californians experienced the largest increase in unemployment of any racial group between 2024 and 2025. It also found rising underemployment, a sharp increase in unemployment among Black women—including college graduates—and a growing number of people who are neither working nor enrolled in school. Based on: Unequal Ground: Black Californians' Employment in a Shifting Economy (2024–2025) by the UCLA Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies and the Black Policy Project (BPP).
