Autism - Understanding Masking and Burnout
In our daily lives, we wear masks. We often change how we act or present ourselves to the outside world in order to navigate and interact with people around us, even when it may not reflect how we truly feel inside. We have to include this as part of our everyday “uniform.” Doing this can be exhausting and it can lead to burnout. And we may need to unmask to help us relax, breathe and reset before doing it all over again. For autistic people, this daily uniform of masking can be especially challenging to navigate daily and can lead to overwhelming burnout. Join us and our three guests as they talk about their experiences and challenges that they face with masking, and what strategies they use to not only prevent burnout, but to keep moving forward.
