KISS, Metallica, Van Halen - Vintage Rock Magazines. Does Anyone Remember These?

  Sep 28, 202631 minS1

A Box Full of Rock History (Circus, Hit Parader & Pure Chaos)What starts as a mysterious box quickly turns into a full-blown time machine. In this episode, Robert John Hadfield and Gary Casella crack open an incredible fan-donated collection of vintage Circus, Hit Parader, Kerrang, tour books, and rare rock memorabilia spanning the late ’70s through the mid ’80s—and immediately lose their minds. From KISS drama (“Why the Catman Really Left KISS”), Van Halen chaos, Ozzy vs. Sabbath, Motley Crüe, Def Leppard, Judas Priest, Queen, Cheap Trick, AC/DC, ZZ Top, and even Steve Martin somehow showing up in Circus magazine—this episode is packed with jaw-dropping covers, forgotten headlines, deep-cut stories, and pure rock nostalgia.Along the way, Robert and Gary riff on guitar heroes, concert philosophies, magazine culture, forgotten bands, and why this single box might fuel an entire year of content. Huge thanks to fan Gary Ligh for the donation that made this episode—and many future ones—possible. This is why physical media still matters.

KISS Lick It Up - Speaking the Truth About the Tour. The Crash of the Vinnie Vincent Era

  Sep 27, 202644 minS1

What happens when three lifelong KISS fans realize their first-ever KISS concert was… the first tour without makeup? In this episode, Robert John Hadfield and Gary Casella are joined by special guest Jonni Lightfoot (former Air Supply bassist and current Artist Relations / Marketing Manager / Product Specialist at Digitech) for a deep-dive hang into one of the weirdest, most fascinating eras in KISS history: the Lick It Up era—when the makeup came off, the tank came back, and the band tried to figure out what “KISS” even meant anymore. The guys flip through an original Lick It Up tour book, obsess over Vinnie Vincent’s look (and guitars), debate whether KISS could’ve stayed in makeup through the ’80s, and roast everything from questionable album covers to post-apocalyptic music video clichés. Along the way, you’ll get plenty of gear talk (BC Rich, Jackson, endorsements), some surprisingly thoughtful takes on branding and presentation, and the kind of laugh-out-loud commentary only fellow KISS lifers can deliver.Plus: Jonni brings the insider energy, the collector knowledge, and the “I should probably call Vinnie” moment that we all want to see happen.

KISS Two Official Tour Programs, One Insane Tour_ The KISS Animalize

  Sep 24, 202628 minS1

KISS in the ’80s was a wild ride… and this episode is pure Animalize-era nerding out in the best possible way. Robert John Hadfield and Gary Casella are joined by special guest Jonni Lightfoot (former Air Supply bassist and current Artist Relations at Digitech) for a deep dive into one of the strangest lineup whiplashes in KISS history: the same tour… with two different guitarists… and two different tour books.Jonni rolls in with a collector-level flex: two official tour programs from the Animalize tour—one featuring Mark St. John (blink-and-you-miss-him KISS guitarist) and the other featuring Bruce Kulick, who quickly took over. The guys flip through both, compare photos page-by-page, roast the glam visuals, and debate what really happened with the infamous “hand problem” storyline. Along the way: Paul Stanley’s wild guitar choices, Gene’s unstoppable “Demon even without makeup” energy, Eric Carr love, and the kind of KISS continuity chaos that only longtime fans truly understand. And in a perfect full-circle moment, Jonni adds to the set with a bright green Digitech/DOD envelope filter pedal—because if you’re going to argue about Jackson guitars, Steinbergers, and ‘80s stage aesthetics… you might as well do it with more pedals in the background.
