The Price of Your Freedom: Why This Midterm Election Is a Fight for Faith Itself
In this solo reflection, Carl looks back on a Sunday spent at church, and on the freedom he and his neighbors in South Florida, Christian and Jewish alike, still have to worship openly. That freedom, he argues, is what is actually on the ballot this November, even though the conversation in most living rooms is about the price of gas. Carl argues the Communist Party's presence on this year's midterm ballot deserves far more attention than it is getting, and walks through what communism has meant everywhere it has taken hold: the USSR under Stalin, Mao's China, and the millions killed or stripped of the right to practice their faith. He traces today's rising antisemitism and anti-Christian sentiment back to what he calls decades of educational failure, a generation taught that capitalism is the problem and socialism the solution, without ever being taught what socialism actually cost the twentieth century. He points to a reported $100 million in Soros-backed funding for socialist and communist campaigns, and to New York City's recent mayoral election as a preview of what happens when people stay home instead of voting. Drawing a parallel to the roughly 12 percent of Russians who backed the Bolsheviks before the Russian Revolution, Carl recalls standing in Moscow's Red Square just after the fall of the Soviet Union, watching people openly pray in public for the first time in decades. His closing message is simple and urgent: whatever the price of gas is right now, it will come down, but a lost freedom to worship does not come back. Carl calls on every Christian and Jew listening, whatever their party, to vote, and to make sure everyone they know votes too.
