AI Governance: Why Speed Isn't the Only Solution
Slowing down AI development is not a substitute for building robust governance architecture. True control requires embedding authorization and accountability into the systems themselves. The future of responsible AI may not depend primarily on whether we can make artificial intelligence move more slowly. It may depend on whether we can make governance move faster. Because the goal should not simply be to limit what AI can do. The goal should be to clearly determine what AI is permitted to do, under whose authority, with what oversight, and with what accountability. Technology will continue to become more capable. The question is whether our governance architecture will become equally sophisticated. And that is today’s AI Conversation. Until next time, keep asking not only what AI can do—but what we should authorize it to do. The article argues that simply slowing down AI development isn't a governance solution. Instead, it emphasizes the need for robust architectural frameworks that distinguish between AI capability and authority, ensure human oversight, and embed governance mechanisms directly into AI systems, rather than relying solely on policies or independent evaluations. Dr. Marilyn stresses that the true challenge is to advance governance capabilities at the same pace as AI development to maintain human authority over consequential actions. #Artificial Intelligence #Technology Integration #AIinEducation #AIforProductivity #Digital Transformation #Workforce Development #Future of Work
