Episode #165
#126 - David Craig - This Is What’s Happening Inside The AFP
In This Episode of the 2 Worlds Collide Podcast, I sit down with former Australian Federal Police Detective Superintendent Dr David Craig for a wide-ranging conversation about the AFP, national security and the changing relationship between law enforcement and government in Australia. David spent 22 years with the AFP, working across major investigations, counter-terrorism and covert operations, including deployments to East Timor and Afghanistan. We discuss David’s concerns about increasing government influence over the AFP and why he believes federal policing needs to remain operationally independent and free from political ideology. We also discuss AFP funding and resources, where David believes priorities have shifted, and what that could mean for the AFP’s ability to focus on serious crime, counter-terrorism and keeping Australians safe. Finally, we break down the Bondi attack and David’s criticism of the response from government and authorities, including what he believes went wrong and the lessons Australia needs to learn.
