How Required Pod Score Works
Required Pod Score reflects the minimum guest expertise and media presence level that a podcast typically expects. It is the bar you need to clear to have a realistic chance of booking a specific show.
What is Required Pod Score?
Required Pod Score is set per podcast and represents the minimum guest Pod Score that the show typically books. It is computed from the show's historical guest characteristics, including their media presence, expertise depth, and audience credentials. A Required Pod Score of 60 means the show typically books guests who have a meaningful media track record and specific expertise relevant to the podcast's audience.
How it is computed
Required Pod Score is derived from several factors: the show's own Pod Score (higher-ranked shows expect stronger guests), the show's category competitiveness (highly competitive categories like top-tier business podcasts have higher bars), historical booking patterns where available, and editorial overrides by PitchCentric staff for shows with well-documented guest standards. The metric is designed to set realistic expectations, not to discourage outreach.
Four tiers
Accessible (0-34): Any guest with relevant experience and a compelling pitch can succeed. Selective (35-54): Solid topical alignment and a compelling pitch angle are essential. Competitive (55-74): Strong expertise, prior appearances, and clear audience value required. Premium (75+): Established thought leaders with verified media credentials expected. These tiers are displayed on each podcast page in PitchCentric.
What it means for your pitching strategy
Required Pod Score helps you segment your outreach realistically. If your guest Pod Score is below a show's requirement, a pitch is unlikely to convert regardless of quality. Focus your best pitches on shows where your score meets or exceeds the requirement. Build toward higher-bar shows by accumulating appearances on accessible and selective shows first.
Is Required Pod Score public?
The tier label (Accessible, Selective, Competitive, Premium) is visible to all users on each podcast page. The exact numeric Required Pod Score is visible only to logged-in users in their guest context. This design reflects the reality that the bar is relative to the guest, not an absolute statement about the show.
How to increase your guest Pod Score
Complete your profile, add past appearances, connect your media profiles, and build your topic expertise tags. Each completed element contributes to your profile's Pod Score, which is used to determine eligibility and Booking Probability across the catalog.
