Yoko Ono: podcast appearances and interviews

Yoko Ono, born on February 18, 1933, in Tokyo, Japan, is an artist, musician, and peace activist. She moved to New York City in 1952 to join her family and became involved in the city's downtown artists scene during the early 1960s. Her work spans performance art and filmmaking, and she has been associated with the Fluxus group. Ono gained international recognition after marrying English musician John Lennon in 1969; their marriage was notable for their public protest against the Vietnam War, exemplified by their famous bed-in. The couple had one son, Sean, who also pursued a career in music. Ono's career in popular music began in 1969 when she formed the Plastic Ono Band with Lennon, producing avant-garde albums in the 1970s. She achieved commercial and critical success with the 1980 album Double Fantasy, a collaboration with Lennon that was released shortly before his death. Ono has also charted success on the US Dance charts, with twelve number one singles, and was named the 11th most successful dance club artist of all time by Billboard magazine in 2016. Throughout her life, she has been honored as a muse and icon by many artists and has collaborated with and inspired numerous musicians. As Lennon's widow, she has worked to preserve his legacy by funding memorials such as Strawberry Fields in Central Park and the Imagine Peace Tower in Iceland. Her philanthropic efforts include contributions to the arts, peace, and disaster relief initiatives in Japan and the Philippines. Ono established the LennonOno Grant for Peace and has received awards such as the Dr Rainer Hildebrandt Human Rights Award.
