Wendy Cowan Alexander, Baroness Alexander of Cleveden, is a Scottish politician, life peer, and former Member of the Scottish Parliament for Paisley North, serving from 1999 until 2011. During her time in parliament, she held various Scottish Government cabinet positions and served as the Leader of the Labour Party in Scotland from 2007 to 2008. After her political career, she transitioned into academia and leadership roles in higher education. She was appointed Associate Dean of Global Business and Associate Dean for Degree Programmes and Career Services at the London Business School. From 2015 to late 2024, she served as Vice-Principal (International) and Professor of International Education at the University of Dundee. In recognition of her contributions to the university sector, she was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in March 2016. She has also been involved in various governmental and advisory capacities, including her appointment as the Scottish Government Trade and Investment Envoy for Higher Education on 30 November 2017. Additionally, Alexander is a member of the UK Government's DIT/DfE Education Sector Advisory Group and chairs the Global Advisory Board of the Times Higher Education Student.
