Wang Yi: podcast appearances and interviews

Wang Yi is a Chinese diplomat and politician who currently serves as the director of the Central Committee Foreign Affairs Commission Office of the Chinese Communist Party and as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Born in Beijing on October 19, 1953, he studied Japanese at Beijing International Studies University before joining the Asian section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Following his graduation, Wang was posted to the Chinese embassy in Japan, where he served for five years. He also spent time as a visiting scholar at Georgetown University in the United States from 1997 to 1998. After returning to China, he held roles including assistant minister and director of the office of policy research. In 2001, Wang was promoted to Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, overseeing Asian affairs, and from 2004 to 2007, he served as China's ambassador to Japan. Between 2008 and 2013, he was the director of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office. Wang was appointed as the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 2013 and served as a State Councilor from 2018 to 2023. He became a member of the Chinese Communist Party Politburo in 2022. Following his removal in 2023, Wang was reappointed as foreign minister after Qin Gang's departure.
