Vin Scully: podcast appearances and interviews

Vin Scully (November 29, 1927 – August 2, 2022) was an American sportscaster renowned for his work in Major League Baseball. He served as the play-by-play announcer for the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers for 67 years, starting in 1950 and continuing until 2016. Born in the Bronx, New York City, Scully attended Fordham University where he played baseball and pursued interests in broadcasting and journalism. Early in his career, he was mentored by Dodgers broadcaster Red Barber, which helped shape his distinctive style. Scully was hired by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1950 and moved with the team to Los Angeles in 1958. He became known for his lyrical, descriptive commentary and his unique tenor voice. His tenure with a single team set a record for longevity in professional sports broadcasting. Beyond baseball, Scully called nationally televised football and golf contests for CBS Sports from 1975 to 1982 and was the lead baseball announcer for NBC Sports from 1983 to 1989. He also called the World Series for CBS Radio during multiple periods. Over his career, Scully received numerous honors including induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame and NAB Broadcasting Hall of Fame, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and the Ford C. Frick Award from the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982. He was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016. Scully passed away at his home in Hidden Hills, California, after a long illness.
