Timothy Shanahan: podcast appearances and interviews

Timothy Shanahan is a Distinguished Professor Emeritus in Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction. His work focuses on literacy education, and he has held a visiting research appointment at Queens University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Shanahan is recognized for his contributions as a researcher, educator, and education policy-maker. He was elected president of the International Literacy Association in 2004 and operates the informational website Shanahan on Literacy. His scholarly work includes more than 200 articles, chapters, and publications on literacy education, along with numerous books and monographs. Shanahan has held editorial roles with several academic journals, including the Journal of Literacy Research and the Yearbook of the National Reading Association. He is a member of editorial boards such as Review of Educational Research, Journal of Educational Psychology, Scientific Studies in Reading, Reading Research Quarterly, Reading Psychology, and Reading and Writing Quarterly: An International Journal. His service also includes participation as a member of the influential National Reading Panel and chairmanship of two federal research review panels, the National Literacy Panel for Language Minority Children and Youth and the National Early Literacy Panel. Shanahan previously served as Director of Reading for Chicago Public Schools and was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve on the board of advisors of the National Institute of Literacy, a role he held under both Presidents Bush and Obama. In recognition of his research impact, he was recently identified as one of the top 2% of scientists worldwide in a study by Stanford University scholars.
