Euphemia LatiQue Sumpter, known as Tika Sumpter, is an American actress and producer born on June 20, 1980. She began her career as the host of Best Friend's Date and appeared in the daytime soap opera One Life to Live from 2005 to 2010. Her film debut was in Stomp the Yard: Homecoming in 2010, and she later played supporting roles in films such as Whats Your Number? Sparkle and A Madea Christmas. In 2011, she had a recurring role in Gossip Girl. Sumpter starred as Candace Young in the OWN prime time soap opera The Haves and the Have Nots from 2013 to 2021. She appeared in several films including Ride Along and its sequel, Get On Up, The Old Man & the Gun, and Nobody's Fool. In 2016, she also produced and starred as Michelle Robinson Obama in Southside with You, a biographical romantic drama, which earned her a nomination for the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture. From 2019 to 2021, Sumpter starred in the ABC comedy series Mixed-ish. She has also been featured in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise as Maddie Wachowski and in the spin-off show Knuckles which has been airing since 2020.
