Thurston Joseph Moore, born on July 25, 1958, is an American musician, singer, and songwriter known primarily for his role as guitarist and vocalist of the band Sonic Youth. He has participated in numerous solo and group collaborations beyond Sonic Youth and is involved in running the Ecstatic Peace! record label. Moore’s influence in the music industry has been recognized by his ranking as the 34th greatest guitarist of all time in Rolling Stone’s 2004 edition of the list. In 2012, he formed a new band called Chelsea Light Moving, which released its self-titled debut in March 2013; the band disbanded in 2015 after releasing one studio album. Despite this, Moore continues to create music through his solo projects and other bands, maintaining an active presence in the alternative and experimental music scenes.
