Thomas Murphy, also known as Slab, is an Irish individual born on August 26, 1949. He is believed to have served as a chief of staff for the Provisional Irish Republican Army and is recognized as an Irish republican. Murphy owns a farm located in Ballybinaby, Hackballscross, which straddles the border between County Armagh in Northern Ireland and County Louth in the Republic of Ireland. He is one of three brothers and has lived as a lifelong bachelor, residing on the Louth side of his farm prior to his imprisonment. In December 2015, Murphy was found guilty of nine counts of tax evasion after an investigation by the Criminal Assets Bureau of the Republic of Ireland. Subsequently, in February 2016, he was sentenced to 18 months in prison. His life has involved both political associations and legal proceedings related to his assets.
