Thomas Mallon, born on November 2, 1951, is an American novelist, essayist, and critic. He has authored ten books of fiction, including titles such as Henry and Clara, Two Moons, Dewey Defeats Truman, Aurora 7, Bandbox, Fellow Travelers, Watergate, Finale, Landfall, and Up With the Sun. His works often explore historical and political themes. In addition to fiction, Mallon has published nonfiction works on topics such as plagiarism, diaries, letters, and the assassination of John F. Kennedy. His nonfiction titles include Stolen Words, A Book of One's Own, Yours Ever, and Mrs. Paine's Garage, as well as two collections of essays, Rockets and Rodeos and In Fact. Mallon formerly served as literary editor of GQ magazine, where he wrote the 'Doubting Thomas' column during the 1990s. He has contributed extensively to prominent publications including The New Yorker, The New York Times Book Review, The Atlantic Monthly, and The American Scholar. In 2002, he was appointed to the National Council on the Humanities and from 2005 to 2006 served as Deputy Chairman of the National Endowment for the Humanities. His honors include Guggenheim and Rockefeller fellowships, recognition from the National Book Critics Circle, and the Vursell Memorial Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for his prose style. In 2012, Mallon was elected as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
