Tanya Talaga: podcast appearances and interviews

Tanya Talaga is a Canadian journalist and author of Anishinaabe and Polish descent. She worked as a journalist at the Toronto Star for over twenty years, covering topics such as health, education, local issues, and investigations. She is also the owner of Makwa Creative, a media company, and contributes as a regular columnist to The Globe and Mail. Talaga gained recognition for her 2017 book Seven Fallen Feathers: Racism, Death, and Hard Truths in a Northern City, which was awarded the 2018 RBC Taylor Prize for non-fiction as well as the 2017 Shaughnessy Cohen Prize for Political Writing. Her latest publication, The Knowing, released in 2024, retells Canadian history and the history of residential schools through an Indigenous perspective, beginning with the life of her great-great grandmother Annie Carpenter. In 2018, she was named a CBC Massey Lecturer, becoming the first woman of Anishinaabe descent to hold this honor. Talaga holds honorary doctorates from Lakehead University and Ryerson University. Her work often explores issues related to Indigenous communities and history in Canada, and she is recognized for her contributions to journalism, literature, and Indigenous storytelling.
