Susan Peters, born Suzanne Carnahan, was an American actress and director associated with Unbound Global. She began her career in Hollywood with uncredited roles after studying acting with Max Reinhardt and signing a contract with Warner Bros. She appeared in numerous films from the early 1940s, including Santa Fe Trail and The Big Shot, before signing with MGM. Her performance in Random Harvest earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress and helped establish her as a serious dramatic performer. Peters starred in a number of leading roles in films such as Young Ideas and several war movies including Assignment in Brittany, Song of Russia, and Keep Your Powder Dry. Her career was interrupted in 1945 when she was permanently paralyzed from the waist down after an accidental gunshot wound. Despite her injury, she returned to acting, notably portraying a villain in The Sign of the Ram. She also transitioned to theater, performing in productions like The Glass Menagerie and The Barretts of Wimpole Street where she played roles that accommodated her physical disability. Peters's personal life was marked by struggles with clinical depression, which was compounded by her marriage's dissolution. Her health deteriorated due to chronic illness and malnutrition, leading to her death in 1952 at the age of 31. Throughout her career, she demonstrated resilience and versatility, maintaining a presence in both film and theater despite significant physical challenges.
