Steven Bernstein: podcast appearances and interviews

Steven Bernstein is an American writer, director, and cinematographer recognized for his work across various media. He has received notable awards including the Best Artistic Contribution Award at the Tokyo International Film Festival in 1992 for the film Like Water for Chocolate, shared with Emmanuel Lubezki. Bernstein's work in commercials has earned him the Cannes Golden Lion. As an author, he published the book Film Production through Focal Press, which has been translated into several languages and was once a bestselling textbook on filmmaking. In the realm of television, Bernstein was an ASC nominee in 2014 for Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography for the series Magic City. His contributions extend to journalism as he regularly writes for SonyCine Magazine and is a subject matter expert for articles on screenwriting and filmmaking for Adobe Creative Cloud. Bernstein has directed various shorts, music videos, and commercials, and made his feature film debut with Decoding Annie Parker in 2014, for which he received The Alfred P. Sloan Award at the Hampton's International Film Festival. His second feature, Last Call, was released theatrically in 2020 and explores the final day of Dylan Thomas’s life through a surrealistic biopic that Bernstein wrote, produced, and directed. Since 2016, Bernstein has been involved in initiatives to expand Greece's film industry, including facilitating a tax rebate policy, training Greek film students, and building a modern film studio. Additionally, he co-hosts the Film Maker And Fans Podcast with Vince Grimes and authored the novel GRQ, published in 2025, which has received multiple awards.
