Steve Scalise: podcast appearances and interviews

Stephen Joseph Scalise is an American politician serving as the U.S. House Majority Leader since 2023. He has represented Louisiana's 1st congressional district in the House of Representatives since 2008. A member of the Republican Party, Scalise previously held positions as the House majority whip from 2014 to 2019 and the House minority whip from 2019 to 2023. Before his election to Congress, he served four months in the Louisiana State Senate and three terms in the Louisiana House of Representatives. Scalise was the chair of the House Republican Study Committee from 2013 to 2014. In 2014, he was elected as the majority whip of the U.S. House of Representatives, becoming the first Louisianian to hold this position since Hale Boggs in the 1960s. He became the dean of the Louisiana congressional delegation in 2017 upon Senator David Vitter's retirement. His district includes most of the suburbs of New Orleans, such as Metairie, Kenner, and Slidell, as well as part of New Orleans itself. On June 14, 2017, Scalise was seriously wounded during a practice for the Congressional Baseball Game when he was shot by an anti-Trump domestic terrorist. He underwent treatment for several months and returned to Congress in September of that year. In 2023, Scalise won the Republican nomination for the Speaker of the House election but withdrew after failing to secure enough votes.
