Stephen Ray Perry, born on January 22, 1949, is an American singer and songwriter renowned for his work as the lead singer and frontman of the rock band Journey during their most commercially successful years from 1977 to 1987 and again from 1995 to 1998. He contributed to the band's success by writing and co-writing several hit songs, including 'Any Way You Want It,' 'Don't Stop Believin',' 'Open Arms,' 'Who's Crying Now,' and 'Separate Ways (Worlds Apart).' Perry pursued a solo career from the mid-1980s through the mid-1990s, made sporadic appearances in the 2000s, and returned to full-time music activity in 2018. Known for his distinctive singing voice, he has received high praise from notable musicians and publications. The moniker 'The Voice' was originally coined by Jon Bon Jovi in reference to Perry's vocal talent.
