Steve Earle: podcast appearances and interviews

Stephen Fain Earle, born on January 17, 1955, is an American singer-songwriter known for his contributions to country, rock, and folk music. He started his career as a songwriter in Nashville. Earle's debut album Guitar Town, released in 1986, marked his breakthrough; its lead single reached number seven on the Billboard Hot Country chart. Over his career, he has released 21 additional studio albums and received three Grammy awards for Best Contemporary Folk Album, along with four other nominations in the same category. His 1988 single Copperhead Road became his bestselling song, reaching number ten on the Mainstream Rock chart and experiencing a resurgence in the 21st century, reaching number 15 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart due to online sales. Many artists including Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Emmylou Harris have recorded his songs. In addition to music, Earle has appeared in television shows such as HBO's The Wire and Treme, and has authored a novel, a play, and a book of short stories. He is the father of late singer-songwriter Justin Townes Earle. Earle was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020 and became a member of the Grand Ole Opry in 2025.
