Stan Smith: podcast appearances and interviews

Stanley Roger Smith, born December 14, 1946, is an American former professional tennis player who achieved the ranking of world No. 1. During his career, he secured two major singles titles, the 1971 US Open and the 1972 Wimbledon Championships. Smith also formed one of the most successful doubles teams of all time with Bob Lutz, winning multiple titles. Notably, he won the inaugural year-end championships in 1970 and finished the year as the world No. 1 singles player in 1972. In 1973, he claimed his second and final year-end championship title at the Dallas WCT Finals. His career includes four Grand Prix Championship Series titles and additional victories in various tournaments. Smith enhanced his tennis skills early on through lessons with Pancho Segura and was supported by the Pasadena Tennis Patrons and the Southern California Tennis Association, led by Perry T. Jones. Beyond his playing career, Smith has held significant roles within the tennis community, serving as a past President of the International Tennis Hall of Fame and as an ITHF Life Trustee. Outside of tennis, he is known for being the namesake of a line of tennis shoes produced by Adidas.
