Sherman Alexie: podcast appearances and interviews

Sherman Joseph Alexie Jr. is a Spokane novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter, and filmmaker. His works often explore his experiences as an Indigenous American with ancestry from multiple tribes, and he grew up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. Currently residing in Seattle, Washington, Alexie's writing includes a diverse range of genres and formats. His best-known book is the semi-autobiographical young adult novel The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, published in 2007. This novel received the U.S. National Book Award for Young People's Literature in 2007 and the Odyssey Award for best audiobook in 2008, which Alexie narrated. Other notable works include the collection of short stories The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven, published in 1993, which was adapted into the film Smoke Signals in 1998 with Alexie also writing the screenplay. His first novel, Reservation Blues, garnered the 1996 American Book Award. In 2009, he published War Dances, a collection of short stories and poems that won the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction in 2010. In addition to his literary achievements, Alexie is involved in film and media, having written for and directed various projects.
