Scott Harvey Peters, born on June 17, 1958, is an American lawyer and politician. He currently serves as the U.S. representative for California's 50th congressional district, a role he has held since 2023. His district encompasses coastal and central regions of San Diego, including the suburbs of Poway and Coronado. Peters previously represented the 52nd congressional district from 2013 to 2023. He is a member of the Democratic Party and has a history of public service at both city and port authorities. Between 2000 and 2008, Peters served two terms on the San Diego City Council, notably becoming the first person to hold the position of city council president, from 2006 to 2008. Prior to his congressional tenure, he served as a commissioner for the Unified Port of San Diego.
