Sarah Gilbert: podcast appearances and interviews

Sarah Gilbert is an English vaccinologist, author, oral historian, and producer. She is a Professor of Vaccinology at the University of Oxford and a co-founder of Vaccitech. Her areas of expertise include the development of vaccines against influenza and emerging viral pathogens. Gilbert led the development and testing of a universal flu vaccine which underwent clinical trials in 2011. In January 2020, she read a report about an outbreak of pneumonia of unknown origin in Wuhan, China. Within two weeks, a vaccine was designed at Oxford targeting the new pathogen later identified as COVID-19. The vaccine, developed in collaboration with the Oxford Vaccine Group, received approval for use in the UK on 30 December 2020. Since then, more than 3 billion doses have been supplied to countries worldwide.
