Sam Ruthe: podcast appearances and interviews

Sam Ruthe, born on 12 April 2009, is a New Zealand middle and long-distance runner. He achieved notable successes in early 2025 by winning senior national titles in the 1500 metres and 3000 metres. Ruthe further distinguished himself by becoming the youngest person in the world to run a mile in less than four minutes, posting a time of 3 minutes 58.35 seconds at age 15. He also recorded the fastest mile ever run by a 16-year-old with a time of 3 minutes 53.83 seconds. In 2026, at the John Thomas Terrier Classic, Ruthe ran the mile in 3 minutes 48.88 seconds, setting a world under-18 best. His performance in the 1500 metres, with an intermediate time of 3 minutes 33.25 seconds, was also recognized as a world under-18 best. By February 2026, Ruthe held all the New Zealand under-20 records between 800 metres and 5000 metres, with the exception of the 1000 metres.
