Samuel Lee Robinson, born on January 1, 1948, is an American former professional basketball player known for his achievements at Long Beach State and his brief career in the American Basketball Association. Standing 6 feet 7 inches tall, Robinson played as a small forward and had a notable college career, including a season in which he averaged 19.7 points and 10.3 rebounds. His performance contributed to Long Beach State's first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Robinson was a trailblazer for the university, becoming the first player from Long Beach State to be drafted by a professional team. He was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics in the sixth round of the 1970 NBA Draft but did not play in the league. Instead, he played two seasons in the ABA, where he averaged 11.1 points per game and earned a spot on the ABA All-Rookie Team in 1971. During the 1970–71 season, Robinson also played five games for the Wilkes-Barre Barons in the Eastern Basketball Association. His professional career marked significant milestones for Long Beach State, as he was the first of its players to be drafted in both the NBA and ABA, and his contributions helped pave the way for future generations of players from the university.
