Russell Ira Crowe, born on April 7, 1964, is a New Zealand-born actor and film director. After moving to Australia at the age of four and establishing residence there by age 21, he began his acting career in Australian films. His breakthrough came with the film Romper Stomper in 1992, which earned him the AACTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Crowe gained international recognition in the late 1990s through notable performances in L. A. Confidential and The Insider; the latter earned him his first Academy Award nomination. His portrayal of the titular character in Gladiator in 2000 earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor, and his role as John Forbes Nash Jr. in A Beautiful Mind in 2001 garnered another Academy Award nomination. His filmography includes a range of acclaimed films such as Master and Commander, Cinderella Man, 3:10 to Yuma, American Gangster, Robin Hood, Les Misérables, Man of Steel, Noah, The Nice Guys, Thor: Love and Thunder, The Pope’s Exorcist, and Nuremberg. In 2014, Crowe made his directorial debut with the drama The Water Diviner, which he also starred in.
