Ron King: podcast appearances and interviews

Ron King is a director affiliated with the National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau. Born in 1956, he is a Barbadian who hails from Saint George. The biography indicates he is recognized for his achievements in checkers, having won twelve world championship titles and being regarded as one of the strongest players in the game. He has received national honors, being named Barbados's Sportsman of the Year twice, in 1991 and 1992. King has been noted for his competitive style, with a reputation that has drawn comparisons to Muhammad Ali due to his trash-talking. In 1998, he set a Guinness World Record by playing against 385 players simultaneously and defeating them all. His 2008 match against South African grandmaster Lubabalo Kondlo was the focus of the documentary King Me. In 2014, King lost his world title in the GAYP version of checkers to Sergio Scarpetta after he failed to appear for the final four games of the match. Although trailing at the time, King’s forfeits in Games 21 and 22 essentially decided the outcome, as the remaining games did not need to be played.
