Roger Steele: podcast appearances and interviews

Roger Michael Steele, born on May 29, 1939, is affiliated with the American Bonsai Association Sacramento. Although noted for his political career in Australia, his current association reflects his interest in horticulture. Steele served as a member of the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly from 1974 to 1987, representing the electoral divisions of Ludmilla and later Elsey. Throughout his tenure, he held several ministerial positions including Executive Member for Transport and Industry, Minister for Industrial Development, Minister for Transport and Works, and Minister for Primary Production. In addition, he served as Minister Assisting the Treasurer during multiple periods. Steele also held the position of Speaker of the Legislative Assembly from 1984 to 1986. During this time, he was known for his critical stance towards then-Chief Minister Ian Tuxworth. Steele publicly expressed his belief that Tuxworth should be ousted by caucus and stated he would resign as Speaker if Tuxworth remained in office, though he ultimately stepped down when Tuxworth resigned and was replaced by Stephen Hatton. Ahead of the 1987 election, Steele sought preselection for the seat of Katherine but was unable to guarantee serving a full term if elected. His nomination was also scrutinized by the opposition, which suggested it was motivated by superannuation concerns. Steele did not secure preselection and retired from politics, publicly endorsing his successor. His current activities demonstrate his continued engagement in significant organizational roles.
