Robert Wilson was an American director and playwright of experimental theater. He was also involved in a broad range of artistic disciplines including choreography, performance, painting, sculpture, video art, and sound and lighting design. Wilson is widely recognized for his collaborations with Philip Glass and Lucinda Childs on the production Einstein on the Beach, as well as his work with musician Tom Waits. In 1991, he founded The Watermill Center, which serves as a laboratory for performance arts and is located on the East End of Long Island, New York. Throughout his career, Wilson worked regularly with opera and theater companies and participated in various cultural festivals.
