Ringo Starr, born Sir Richard Starkey on July 7, 1940, is an English musician, singer, songwriter, and actor best known for his role as the drummer for the Beatles. His drumming style emphasizes feel over technical virtuosity and has influenced many drummers by encouraging a focus on the musical aspect of playing. Starr contributed lead vocals on several Beatles tracks, including Yellow Submarine and With a Little Help from My Friends, and wrote and sang songs such as Don't Pass Me By and Octopus's Garden. He is credited as a co-writer for three other songs. After experiencing childhood health challenges, Starr developed an interest in the skiffle genre and founded his first band, the Eddie Clayton Skiffle Group, in 1957. He later joined Rory Storm and the Hurricanes before replacing Pete Best as the Beatles' drummer in August 1962. Following the group's dissolution, Starr released several successful singles including the US top-ten hit It Don't Come Easy and chart-toppers Photograph and You're Sixteen.
