Richard James Watters, born on April 7, 1969, is an American former professional football player who played as a running back in the National Football League. During his NFL career, he was a member of the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Seattle Seahawks. Watters played college football at the University of Notre Dame, where he was a wide receiver on the school's 1988 national championship team. In the NFL, he secured a second championship with the 49ers in Super Bowl XXIX. Known for his exceptional receiving skills and distinctive high-stepping running style, he earned the nickname Ricky Running Watters from ESPN sportscaster Chris Berman. He also appeared in the movie Any Given Sunday portraying a running back for the fictional Dallas Knights. Beyond his football career, Watters is a motivational speaker focusing on children who were adopted, a reflection of his own adoption experience. He is involved in the music industry as a recording artist and producer, and serves as the president and CEO of Tigero Entertainment. As an author, he wrote the book For Who For What, a Warrior’s Journey. Watters also served as the head football coach at Oak Ridge High School in Orlando, Florida, until his resignation on October 1, 2013. An architecture major in college, he returned to Notre Dame in 2014 to complete the final credits for a degree in graphic design.
