Ricky Byrd, born Richard Scott Bird on October 20, 1956, is a rock and roll guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer. He spent more than ten years as a member of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, contributing to two platinum albums and several others, including I Love Rock 'n Roll and Up Your Alley. Throughout his career, Byrd has performed, recorded, or toured with a wide range of notable artists, including Roger Daltrey, Ian Hunter, Southside Johnny, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Alice Cooper, and Stevie Wonder, among others. His work has been covered or co-written by numerous artists such as Joan Jett, Roger Daltrey, and Sanne Salomonsen. In addition to his collaborations, Byrd has released five solo albums, including Tough Room...This World, Lifer, Clean Getaway, Sobering Times, and NYC Made. His lyrics often focus on themes of addiction, recovery, and hope, drawing from his personal experiences with substance abuse. Byrd has been sober for over thirty years, actively participating in benefit shows to support drug and alcohol treatment facilities. He is a certified recovery coach and drug and alcohol counselor.
