Frederick Jay Rubin, born on March 10, 1963, is an American record producer known for his significant influence across multiple music genres. He co-founded Def Jam Recordings, the influential label that helped popularize hip hop, and established American Recordings. Rubin has also served as co-president of Columbia Records. He has produced records for pioneering hip hop artists such as LL Cool J, the Beastie Boys, Run-DMC, Public Enemy, and Geto Boys. His production work spans a wide range of genres, including pop with artists like Kesha, Adele, Ed Sheeran, and Lady Gaga; heavy metal with Danzig, Metallica, and Slayer; alternative rock with The Cult, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rage Against the Machine, the Strokes, and Weezer; hard rock with Audioslave, ACDC, and Aerosmith; nu metal with Linkin Park, System of a Down, and Slipknot; and country music with Johnny Cash, The Chicks, and Tyler Childers.
