Richard Andrew Palethorpe-Todd OBE was an Irish-British actor recognized for his leading man roles in the 1950s. His performances earned him critical acclaim, including a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Male and nominations for both an Academy Award for Best Actor and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for his role as Corporal Lachlan MacLachlan in the 1949 film The Hasty Heart. Todd's acting career included notable roles such as Jonathan Cooper in Stage Fright, Wing Commander Guy Gibson in The Dam Busters, Sir Walter Raleigh in The Virgin Queen, and Major John Howard in The Longest Day. Before becoming an actor, Todd served as a Captain in the British Army during the Second World War, participating in the D-Day landings as a member of the 7th Light Infantry Parachute Battalion.
