Richard Thompson, born on 3 April 1949, is an English songwriter, musician primarily known as a guitarist, singer, and record producer. He gained prominence in the late 1960s as a co-founder of the folk rock group Fairport Convention, serving as the lead guitarist and songwriter. Following his departure from the band in 1971, Thompson released his debut solo album, Henry the Human Fly, in 1972. He then formed a duo with his wife, Linda Thompson, producing six albums including the critically acclaimed I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight and Shoot Out the Lights. After the duo disbanded, Thompson continued his solo career with the release of Hand of Kindness in 1983 and has since released twenty solo studio albums. Among these, Rumor and Sigh, You? Me? Us?, and Dream Attic received Grammy nominations, and Still became his first UK Top Ten album.
