Richard Whalley Anthony Curtis was born on 8 November 1956. He is a British screenwriter, producer, and director known for his work on romantic comedy-drama films such as Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, Bridget Jones's Diary, Love Actually, About Time, and Yesterday. He also directed the war drama film War Horse and co-wrote notable sitcoms including Blackadder, Mr. Bean, and The Vicar of Dibley. Curtis's early career involved writing material for comedy sketch shows like Not the Nine O'Clock News and Spitting Image. Recognized for his contributions to both film and television, he received the BAFTA Fellowship for lifetime achievement in 2007. Curtis is also noted for his humanitarian work; he co-founded the charity Comic Relief with Lenny Henry, which has raised over one billion pounds.
