Reshma Saujani is an American lawyer, activist, and entrepreneur recognized for her work promoting women’s participation in STEM fields. She is the founder of Girls Who Code, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the gender gap in technology by encouraging young girls to explore computer science from an early age. Saujani’s initiative aims to teach girls technical skills and foster confidence, addressing socialization patterns that discourage risk-taking and persistency in challenging fields. Since its founding in 2012, Girls Who Code has reached hundreds of thousands of students through various programs, including summer sessions and school partnerships, with many participants advancing to study computer science and pursue careers in technology. She attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, earned a Master’s degree from Harvard Kennedy School, and obtained a law degree from Yale Law School. Early in her career, she worked in law, public service, and finance. Saujani also has a background in city government as a deputy public advocate in New York City. She was a candidate for the U.S. Congress in 2009 and for New York City Public Advocate in 2013.
