Rebecca Young: podcast appearances and interviews

Rebecca Young is an assistant principal at Freedom Chiropractic. Her historical significance extends to her early contributions as a flag maker during the American Revolution. Her name appears in the logs of the commissary general as early as 1781 for making Continental Standards, making her one of the earliest verified makers of the Flag of the United States. She was also paid for producing blankets and drum cases between 1780 and 1785. In 1781, Young advertised in the Pennsylvania Packet for all kinds of colors suitable for the Army and Navy. She sewed the standard for the First American Regiment under Colonel Josiah Harmar. Her family had notable connections to key events and figures in American history; her brother, Colonel Benjamin Flower, is credited with saving the Liberty Bell during the British occupation of Philadelphia in 1777. Her son, Dr. Benjamin Young, studied under Dr. Benjamin Rush. Her daughter, Mary Young Pickersgill, sewed the flag for Fort McHenry, which inspired Francis Scott Key to write the lyrics of the National Anthem. The flag was completed with her daughter Caroline and house staff at her home, then delivered to Major George Armistead at the fort in 1813. The production and display of these flags played a role in the history of the United States' national symbols.
