About Ray Suarez
Ray Suarez, born Rafael Suarez Jr. on March 5, 1957, is an American broadcast journalist and author. In his more than 40-year career, he has worked as a radio reporter in London and Rome, served as a Los Angeles correspondent for CNN, and reported for WMAQ-TV in Chicago. Suarez joined the PBS NewsHour in 1999 and was a senior correspondent for the program until 2013. He also hosted the public radio program Talk of the Nation from 1993 to 1999 and was the host of the international news and analysis program America Abroad on Public Radio International. Suarez has been involved in various other media roles, including hosting Inside Story on Al Jazeera America until the network ceased operation in 2016 and being one of the U.S. correspondents for Euronews from 2020 to 2022. He has also held academic positions, including a visiting professorship at NYU Shanghai in 2022 and the John J. McCloy Visiting Professorship of American Studies at Amherst College. From 2018 to 2025, Suarez hosted radio and podcast series such as On Shifting Ground for KQED-FM, Going for Broke for the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, and The Things I Thought About When My Body Was Trying to Kill Me on cancer and recovery for Evergreen Podcasts. He authored the book We Are Home: Becoming American in the 21st Century, published in 2024, which explores modern American immigration. Currently, Suarez is set to host the PBS series Wisdom Keepers, scheduled to premiere in June 2025.
