Raymond Anthony Lewis Jr. is a former professional football linebacker who played in the National Football League for 17 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. He played college football for the Miami Hurricanes and earned All-America honors. Considered one of the greatest linebackers of all time, Lewis was selected in the first round of the 1996 NFL draft and was the last active player from the Ravens' inaugural season upon his retirement following the 2012 season. Throughout his career, he served as a team leader on defense and led the Ravens in tackles 14 times. Lewis was a key contributor to the Ravens' record-setting defense that limited opponents to the fewest points and rushing yards in a season, and he played a significant role in the team's victory in Super Bowl XXXV, where he was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He won the award again in 2003, making him one of only a few players to do so multiple times. Lewis's individual achievements include accumulating NFL records for career combined tackles and solo tackles. Over his career, he was a 13-time Pro Bowler and a 10-time All-Pro. His performances across three decades of play have established him as one of the greatest defensive players and the greatest Baltimore Raven of all time. Despite legal issues in 2000 involving a guilty plea to obstruction of justice, Lewis's professional accomplishments have solidified his reputation as a legendary figure in football history. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018.
